How creators experiment? Q & A with Anne-Laure

Last Monday as I was finishing my newsletter and procrastinating on Twitter when I saw this:

I seized the opportunity to ask Anne what approach to Life Experimentation would she recommend.

Who?

Short intro for those who don't know Anne.

Anne-Laure Le Cunff or @anthilemoon on Twitter is a french creator living in London. She writes the popular neuroscience-based blog Ness Labs and leads an online community with the same name.

Anne-Laure used to work for Google as a marketer but then decided to test the waters of startups and the creator economy. After a year of trying startups, she enrolled at UCL to obtain a masters degree in Neuroscience.

During her studies, she started the Ness Labs blog and community. The rest is history. Ness Labs has been one of the success stories of the 2020 creator economy world.

More about here in this interview .

Here take on the Life Experiments👇

What would be the one thing everyone should experiment with within their life?

Can I say… Everything?

I'm a big fan of failing like a scientist.

Scientists don't design experiments to succeed; their goal is to learn something new.

Turn your life into a massive experiment. Formulate a hypothesis, try something new, learn from the experience—practice self-reflection to build upon your newly acquired knowledge.

What you wrote is your "philosophy". Do you have a concrete tip that a person can try right away?

I would say start with consistent self-reflection. It could take the form of journaling or a weekly review, but make sure to block time in your calendar and do it.

I personally use something called Plus-Minus-Next journaling. More about the technique here . The main idea is to regularly go through:

  • Plus: What went well?
  • Minus: What didn't go so well?
  • Next: What I want to focus on next week?

Plus-Minus-Next journaling is a systematic way you can use to reflect and reset your intentions. The technique ensures that you are learning from the continuous experiments you are running in your life.

Scouts promise that I haven't told Anne-Laure anything about the Life Experiment blog before our interview.

If you didn't believe me what to do till now. Listen to Anne and go get that journal of yours. Then:

Start experimenting & reflecting.

That's the magic bullet I'm trying to sell you.
